1967 L89 Corvette Coupe

The Story of a Black 67 L89 Coupe

It was 12 weeks to Carlisle 2002 and I did not have a car ready to take......

The car was off the frame and in bare fiberglass, and the frame was disassembled and on two sawhorses, I figured I better get busy if the car was going to be at Corvettes of Carlisle.......

In 1980, When the third owner (KS) got his December 1980 Vette Views, displaying a cover pic of Chip Millers restored 67 black/red 435hp coupe, he decided it was time to disassemble and restore this car to its original shape. He had owned the car since 75, and despite only being 13 years old the car had already been changed from its original color of black, to silver in 69, and blue in 72. It had been raced since almost day one, and despite never being wrecked, and only having 47800 miles, it was a time for a restoration. So in the winter of 1980 this coupe was taken apart and labeled for restoration.

In 1995 she still sat in the same condition as she did in 1980, it was decided that the restoration was never to happen and the coupe was traded for a frame off restored 68 L89 coupe. The new owner (DC) decided that this was an excellent parts car for his red 67 roadster, and he just set the coupe body outside in a field, visible from road for the next almost 7 years.

In December 2001 it was finally put for sale, 9-11 had put a spook in the owner, the convert had been sold, and I was able to work a deal before anyone else was able to get the car. The car was brought home by me in many bags, buckets and boxs. Several months were taken to sort out the parts and put them in some semblance of order, then the restoration began.
